"VeggieTales 1993" | CLANCYPASTA

I found a strange copy of that old VeggieTales episode "W-Where's God When I'm S-Scared?", that I don't think should exist...

I narrated this old-school "lost episode" story waaaaay back in 2018 (the original posting seems to have been lost to time, but lots of people have archived it elsewhere), and a lot of people really liked it- it was removed sometime over the years, but I've gotten tons of comments asking me to reupload it. Well, instead of a reupload, I thought I'd give it a fresh go around for 2024! I hope you all enjoy tonight's story, and have a great night!

[00:00:01] Has anyone heard of VeggieTales? I've been a big fan of it ever since I got my first DVD, which was Rack, Shack, and Benny. The show was really good in my eyes, because of the characters, stories, morals, and humor.

[00:00:16] I have outgrown the show because I've gotten older, and I'm glad I did because there are these new redesigns and this spinoff called VeggieTales in the House, which to me is kinda a guilty pleasure.

[00:00:30] I still have a bunch of DVDs and even some old VHS tapes. I've watched all of them, except one. Its name was Where's God When I'm Scared.

[00:00:44] I've actually had it before, but when I was about to watch it, I couldn't find it. So, I decided to go to my old buddy Amazon to look for not a re-release, not a remaster, but the original.

[00:00:57] I searched for it, but couldn't find a copy. Until I got to the bottom of the results.

[00:01:03] The title of the item said, VeggieTales 1993, Where's God When I'm Scared, VHS tape, good as new.

[00:01:15] I couldn't wait to get it in the mail.

[00:01:19] About a week later, my aunt and uncle, who I was living with at the time, were going on a trip.

[00:01:25] They said if I ever needed them to call them. At least I can watch the tape without being disturbed, because my sister is also gone to a friend's house as well.

[00:01:36] Right after they left, the mailman came and put something in the mailbox.

[00:01:41] Most likely a package from the yellow wrapping I could see around it.

[00:01:45] So after he left, I checked the mailbox, and sure enough, it was my package.

[00:01:50] I grabbed it, went into the house, into my room, shut the door behind me, and started opening it up.

[00:01:58] After I opened it up, I started to look at the tape's condition, because you know Amazon.

[00:02:03] You could get something that looks brand new on the picture of the item, but then you wind up getting a sand-filled GameCube.

[00:02:11] The tape's box art looked like it was copied off of Google Images, and the actual tape didn't have a label.

[00:02:19] Geez, Amazon, thank you very much.

[00:02:23] I said in a kind of sarcastic way, even though I was really happy to get the tape.

[00:02:30] Since I have an old VCR, thanks to the 80s, that I barely use anymore, that I got from my uncle,

[00:02:36] I put in the VHS tape and pressed play.

[00:02:40] For some reason, it took nine minutes to get working, I'm guessing because of the bad condition.

[00:02:46] After the nine minutes of waiting, which felt longer because I was excited to watch it,

[00:02:53] the tape finally began.

[00:02:55] It seemed like everything was normal at first, for the first 15 minutes of the tape.

[00:03:01] It was a great episode that had a great lesson.

[00:03:04] God is bigger than any monster out there.

[00:03:07] Followed by a funny, silly song called The Water Buffalo Song.

[00:03:12] About when I was going to finish the other 15 minutes after the silly song,

[00:03:18] it seemed like the tape got preempted because it showed a black screen for about three minutes.

[00:03:24] Not only was I upset because I thought the tape didn't work after 15 minutes or was recorded over the actual show,

[00:03:32] I was also mad that it seemed like I was scammed out of 10 bucks.

[00:03:37] But after a little complaining, the show seemed to restart because it showed the intro again.

[00:03:46] I was a little curious because the show normally doesn't restart unless it's over and you hear the tape rewinding inside the VCR.

[00:03:56] But it didn't, and I didn't hear the tape rewind inside.

[00:04:02] When the actual show started, it showed Bob and Larry standing on the countertop as usual,

[00:04:08] but for some reason, the atmosphere felt different, almost depressing.

[00:04:15] I mean, Bob and Larry were smiling.

[00:04:19] And the background was bright and colorful, but for some reason, it felt depressing.

[00:04:24] Everything was about normal until they started reading the letter.

[00:04:31] Bob read the letter out loud, and it said,

[00:04:35] Dear Bob and Larry, I am a mother of two children, and my youngest son died in a car accident last night.

[00:04:44] His dad fell asleep on the wheel and crashed into a tree.

[00:04:48] He was fine, but my son was killed.

[00:04:52] I don't know what to do anymore.

[00:04:55] I just hope you understand what I've been going through.

[00:04:59] Michelle

[00:05:02] Bob looked really upset with the letter, and Larry didn't say anything clever or funny, which is kinda out of character for him.

[00:05:12] The show interrupted Bob and Larry before they could say anything.

[00:05:17] The show started up with Junior watching TV at night in the living room, similar to Where's God When I'm Scared,

[00:05:26] with the familiar mom asparagus saying,

[00:05:29] Junior, time for bed!

[00:05:31] With Junior saying,

[00:05:33] Just four more minutes!

[00:05:35] But, he decides to turn off the television and go to his room.

[00:05:40] He hopped up the stairs and into his room.

[00:05:43] However, he is extremely scared, even more than he was when watching the TV show.

[00:05:50] He thought,

[00:05:52] Yeesh, that show is scary, but it isn't real, is it?

[00:05:58] Junior goes to sleep, and we get treated to his dreams and nightmares.

[00:06:05] There are a lot of flashing colors and shapes, with Junior in the dream world slash just dream.

[00:06:13] After about thirty seconds, I heard a loud, booming voice that sounded like my TV speakers were at one hundred percent volume.

[00:06:23] However, my volume was turned down to ten.

[00:06:27] The voice said,

[00:06:29] You are weak, humble, disgraceful, no one.

[00:06:38] This part shocked me the most.

[00:06:41] I was jump scared by the monster that Junior watched on the TV,

[00:06:45] except it looked a lot more...

[00:06:48] demented.

[00:06:50] Junior woke up with not a scream, not a cry, but instead a shocked face.

[00:06:58] It cut to two days later.

[00:07:01] Bob and Larry were, with mom and dad asparagus.

[00:07:06] The dad said,

[00:07:08] Junior hasn't come out of his room in two days.

[00:07:11] Is he sick?

[00:07:12] Is he coming down with something?

[00:07:14] Is he injured?

[00:07:15] We don't know, because he never told us.

[00:07:18] They entered his room.

[00:07:21] Junior looked a lot worse than from the last time we saw him.

[00:07:26] He was laying straight on his bed, staring straight up with red, bloodshot eyes,

[00:07:32] and was drooling out of a gaping mouth.

[00:07:35] Bob closed his eyes and said,

[00:07:38] Junior looks like he's in really bad condition.

[00:07:42] This is the first time I've seen Bob this serious.

[00:07:47] They cut to Junior again, but he was shaking rapidly and started foaming out of the mouth.

[00:07:54] He seemed like he was crying as well.

[00:07:57] It cuts to a hospital building where a doctor that looked like Archibald said in his British accent,

[00:08:05] Junior hasn't slept in three days.

[00:08:08] He looks like he's shocked, almost in a coma state.

[00:08:12] His mom said to Junior,

[00:08:14] We didn't know you were scared, Junior.

[00:08:17] You should have told us.

[00:08:19] This was getting really disturbing and getting uncomfortable to watch.

[00:08:26] After his mom saw that the beeper,

[00:08:29] the thing that tells you if the heart is still beating and beeps, went flat,

[00:08:33] Archie then said to them,

[00:08:35] I'm sorry everyone, but Junior is dead.

[00:08:42] It was really sad.

[00:08:45] I felt like I was going to cry because Junior was one of my favorite characters in the show.

[00:08:51] It cuts to a picture of the Asparagus family,

[00:08:55] with Mom Asparagus crying in the background,

[00:08:58] while mixed in with the words,

[00:09:00] He's gone.

[00:09:02] I can't bring him back.

[00:09:03] I can't live like this anymore.

[00:09:05] Then we see Mom Asparagus in the kitchen,

[00:09:09] reaching in a medicine cabinet,

[00:09:11] and pulling a bottle of pills.

[00:09:14] She finishes with the following word,

[00:09:18] When you lose someone,

[00:09:20] you will always feel pain,

[00:09:22] until you can't feel at all.

[00:09:26] She opens up the bottle,

[00:09:29] pours all the pills in her mouth,

[00:09:31] then passes out.

[00:09:32] The final image is an image of the Asparagus family.

[00:09:37] It cuts back to the countertop,

[00:09:40] where Bob and Larry are,

[00:09:42] even sadder from when they read the letter.

[00:09:44] Then Bob said in a sad voice,

[00:09:47] It's time to talk to QWERTY about what we learned today.

[00:09:53] QWERTY didn't work though,

[00:09:55] and Bob was getting angry at QWERTY for not working.

[00:09:59] He starts bouncing off of QWERTY like a ball,

[00:10:02] getting angrier every time.

[00:10:04] Larry even told Bob to stop,

[00:10:07] or he might get hurt.

[00:10:09] Bob charged at the computer,

[00:10:11] and when he hit it,

[00:10:13] he splattered into pieces of tomato juice,

[00:10:16] and tomato chunks.

[00:10:18] Larry ran off crying.

[00:10:21] He then went to the edge of the countertop,

[00:10:23] and said to the audience,

[00:10:24] while staring at the camera,

[00:10:26] in a sad voice,

[00:10:28] Remember kids,

[00:10:29] it's God made you special,

[00:10:31] and he loves you very much.

[00:10:35] Goodbye.

[00:10:37] Larry then jumped off the counter,

[00:10:40] and when he hit the floor,

[00:10:41] he smashed into pieces.

[00:10:44] Then the episode ended with no credits.

[00:10:47] Just nothing.

[00:10:50] This was a very shocking experience for me.

[00:10:55] I didn't know who made the episode.

[00:10:57] I didn't even know if I was dreaming or not.

[00:11:01] I couldn't sleep for two days.

[00:11:03] I kept on getting nightmares about that episode.

[00:11:08] The next day,

[00:11:10] I decided to email Big Idea,

[00:11:13] the company that makes VeggieTales,

[00:11:15] about this strange and disturbing episode.

[00:11:19] I didn't get a response until two weeks later,

[00:11:23] and the email said,

[00:11:25] To whom it concerns,

[00:11:28] from Big Idea,

[00:11:31] Subject,

[00:11:32] Disturbing VeggieTales 1993,

[00:11:35] Where's God when I'm scared?

[00:11:38] We are sorry.

[00:11:40] We have never made anything as disturbing or demented as you have described for us,

[00:11:46] but we understand your worry,

[00:11:47] so we think you should get rid of it and anything else that might worry you.

[00:11:53] And remember,

[00:11:54] God made you special and loves you very much.

[00:12:00] Big Idea,

[00:12:04] I took their word for it,

[00:12:07] and threw the tape,

[00:12:08] along with my VeggieTales DVDs,

[00:12:11] VHS tapes,

[00:12:12] and even my Bob and Larry plushies that I've had since I was little,

[00:12:17] and threw them in the garbage.

[00:12:18] I tried to tell other people about it,

[00:12:22] even my closest friends and my aunt and uncle,

[00:12:26] but they didn't believe me.

[00:12:29] I was watching the news on TV,

[00:12:32] and there was a new story about a father and son who was driving last night,

[00:12:37] and crashed into a tree.

[00:12:40] The father survived with few injuries,

[00:12:43] but the son died,

[00:12:45] and the mother was named Michelle.

[00:12:49] That's strange,

[00:12:51] because there was something similar to the letter that Bob and Larry read.

[00:12:57] So, the next day,

[00:12:59] I decided to take a drive around my home state of Arizona.

[00:13:03] After a few hours of driving,

[00:13:06] I found myself at the Grand Canyon.

[00:13:10] So, I parked my car there,

[00:13:12] and went to the edge.

[00:13:13] I looked down into the rocky floor at the bottom of the canyon.

[00:13:19] Say to those with fearful hearts,

[00:13:22] Be strong,

[00:13:23] do not fear,

[00:13:25] your God will come.

[00:13:26] He will come with vengeance.

[00:13:28] With divine retribution,

[00:13:31] He will come to save you.

[00:13:34] Isaiah 35 4
