You move into a new house, and suddenly things start appearing... and disappearing. A room now has two extra windows. There's a door to a new hallway now. The winding staircase is ten steps too long. This is the predicament in tonight's episode of Forgotten Tales where we take a look at the classic internet urban legend "House of Rules". First, we'll be checking out the tale, and then I'll give you some of my thoughts.

[00:00:00] What would you do if you moved into a new house, a beautiful house, that seemed to change
[00:00:11] every day?
[00:00:13] New windows, new cupboards, new stairs met the previous owner, and to date, know him only from the post I receive in his
[00:01:45] name. The purchase was a complicated one, due in part to poor record-keeping and the loss of deeds and plans of the house. What should have taken a month from start to finish took four times as long. Because of the length of time I took several viewings, and each time was amazed by windows
[00:03:00] and cupboards that I could not recall from previous visits.
[00:03:04] Rooms seemed bigger and lighter.
[00:03:08] More inviting. He wasn't allowed to. At the time I presumed he meant his wife, but now I'm not so certain. As he was the only one I'd got to know since the move, I did my best to become friendly, and even felt like I was making headway.
[00:04:22] Then I made the mistake about asking about the lounge after that, by accident. I was woken once again with a feeling that I should leave, that it would be unsafe to stay and that I should not be there. This time, however should never, ever, explore. Another rule is, guests are not welcome. The last time I had a guest, it was a friend who invited themself by making arguments to come and see me until I relented. How could I not?
[00:07:03] Despite my concerns that I could not air down for the weekend,
[00:08:02] Things, I could tell you. Example after example.
[00:08:04] I don't know where to begin.
[00:08:07] I need you to look past your skepticism and see that this is real, that this is more than
[00:08:12] coincidence.
[00:08:14] This is more than just child's play haunting.
[00:08:18] I am not being haunted.
[00:08:21] I am being ruled.
[00:08:24] The rules are only a part of it.
[00:08:27] They are the part I play. only reaching out for a wall I knew must be there, yet my fingers touched only air. I do not know how long I fumbled in the dark, but it was only as my panic attack rose that my shaking fingers found the wooden door.
[00:09:40] Have you ever woken up in a room with a chair sitting at the end of your bed, a chair that that it is a nightmare I am living. Five hours have passed since I sat down to write this, and when once I hope to prepare some lunch and hope there are no drawing pins in my bread like in the room I am in has a satellite connection and with it countless channels. Right now, all are a fuzz of static, except for National Geographic,, I just want to get by. I get the feeling that up until now, I've simply been coached, like a dog, to do what is required of me. I phone. I cannot write a letter. My only hope is to write it into a story inconspicuously and without details that might draw attention to the content.
[00:15:02] All I can hope is that someone sees enough to scissors in my slippers, of what power moves wooden Okay, okay. I'll start off right away by saying I really enjoyed that story. And I think it part of it is probably just because the only real character in the entire story is the author. You know, there's mention of his neighbor that he interacts with for a second. But aside from that,
[00:17:42] you know, there's not much. So it even in that new aspects of the house and their comfort going. All of their houses were specifically built as a kind of house shelter, a home, for some darker spirits that unbeknownst to anyone who is wanting to move in there actually own and have control of that lamp and those buildings.
[00:21:44] And therefore anyone who wants to move in or does move in better be following, these three out of five bones and got a couple comments saying that they thought it probably deserved more like four out of five bones. And you know, I'm thinking about it. I kind of want to want to agree with that because I'm thinking about it more. That was a great story. So, you know, is this a technical official revision? I don't know. But I'm just putting that out there.
[00:23:02] Yeah, four out of five sounds fine for Arizona. Now on to the what you thought of it. I want to give a huge thanks to all of my Patreon supporters at patreon.com slash Clancy pasta, where for as little as a dollar a month, by the way, you get all of these episodes, but completely at free and then audio version.
